  How to play contract bridge Overview [ edit ] Bridge is a four-player partnership  trick-taking game  with thirteen tricks per deal. [16] [17]  The dominant variations of the game are  rubber bridge , more common in social play; and  duplicate bridge , which enables comparative scoring in tournament play. Each player is dealt thirteen cards from a standard 52-card deck. A  trick  starts when a player leads, i.e. plays the first card. The leader to the first trick is determined by the auction; the leader to each subsequent trick is the player who won the preceding trick. Each player, in clockwise order, plays one card on the trick. Players must play a card of the same suit as the original card led, unless they have none (said to be "void"), in which case they may play any card. Hearts Rules

  Players and Cards Hearts is most commonly played by 4 people. There are no formal partnerships, though there are times when players will find it in their interest to help each other. A standard 52 card deck is used, with the cards in each suit ranking as usual from ace (high) down to two (low). There is no trump suit. Each heart is worth one penalty point and the queen of spades is worth 13 penalty points. The other cards have no value. Object of Game The object is to avoid scoring points. The game is ended by someone reaching or going over 100 points, and the winner is the player with the lowest score at this point. Deal and Passing Deal and play are clockwise.
